The Customer Service Portal
portal.irishimmigration.ie is ISD’s self-service portal, launched as the Digital Contact Centre in November 2024. Use it to:
- book, change or cancel your first registration appointment. You choose your county, the permission you’re registering and, for some permissions, how many family members are coming. Remember to register within 90 days of arriving.
- check the status of your applications, including citizenship applications;
- send ISD a query: about appointments, online renewals, lost, late or wrong IRP cards, a new passport, re-entry visas or leaving Ireland. Pick the right category so it reaches the right team.
Setting up an account
ISD checks who you are before you can use it:
- Email: you can only register one email address, so use the same one for everything.
- Your details and mobile number, matching your ID documents.
- Microsoft Authenticator, an app on your phone that gives you a code each time you sign in.
- ID-Pal, an identity check: you scan an ID document and your face with your phone. You can use a passport, driving licence, national ID card, travel document, Public Service Card, residence permit or IPO blue card.
The Online Form Portal (online renewals)
inisonline.jahs.ie is where you apply. ISD calls it both the online renewals portal and the Online Form Portal: it’s the same system. The “inis” in the address is from ISD’s old name, INIS.
Renewing
- Apply up to 12 weeks before your permission expires, and only while you’re in Ireland. Students on Stamp 2 must wait until their course starts.
- Upload a copy of your current IRP card and your passport’s photo page, plus the documents for your stamp. It costs €300 for most permissions.
- Family members each apply separately.
- You get an acknowledgement email with your application number (an OREG number). If ISD asks for more documents and you don’t reply within 14 days, it refuses the application.
- Once approved, your new IRP card should arrive within 15 business days.
The same portal handles moving to a new stamp, such as from Stamp 2 to Stamp 1G, and a new passport: you upload its photo page there instead of going to Burgh Quay.
ISD processes renewals in date order for each stamp. On 28 September 2026 it was working on applications submitted on:
| Stamp | Submitted on |
|---|---|
| 1, 1H | 7 August 2026 |
| 1G | 31 July 2026 |
| 2, 2A, 1A | 31 July 2026 |
| 4 | 23 August 2026 |
| All others | 4 September 2026 |
ISD updates these dates every week.
Applying for citizenship
Citizenship applications are also made on the Online Form Portal: you fill in the form, upload your documents and pay the €175 application fee. Then:
- you get an email with a link to e-vetting, which you complete online;
- if ISD asks for more documents, you have 28 days to upload them on the Online Form Portal. Miss the deadline and the application is refused, without a refund;
- you track the application on the Customer Service Portal, not on the portal where you applied.
ISD says most applications are decided within 12 months. If you can’t apply online, you can ask for a paper form through the Customer Service Portal.
Visas and employment permits
- Visas: you apply on ISD’s visa application system, AVATS, at www.visas.inis.gov.ie, from the country you live in. It gives you a summary form that tells you where to send your documents.
- Employment permits: you or your employer apply on Employment Permits Online, run by the Department of Enterprise, Tourism and Employment. You need a contract signed by you both, and you have 28 days from starting the form to submit it.
Common mix-ups
Common questions
What's the difference between the Customer Service Portal and the Online Form Portal?
The Customer Service Portal (portal.irishimmigration.ie) is for booking first registration appointments, checking the status of applications and sending ISD queries. The Online Form Portal (inisonline.jahs.ie) is where you apply: to renew your permission, change stamp, update your passport or apply for citizenship.
Where do I renew my IRP?
On the Online Form Portal at inisonline.jahs.ie, up to 12 weeks before your permission expires. You must be in Ireland when you apply.
Where do I book my first registration appointment?
On the Customer Service Portal at portal.irishimmigration.ie. If you're 16 or over, the appointment must be booked in your own name.
How do I track my citizenship application?
On the Customer Service Portal, under Status. You apply on the Online Form Portal, but ISD says you can't track your application there.
Why does the renewal portal say INIS?
INIS is ISD's old name, and the Online Form Portal's address still starts with "inisonline". It's ISD's official system.
What do I need to set up a Customer Service Portal account?
An email address (you can only register one), a mobile phone, the Microsoft Authenticator app for sign-in codes, and an ID-Pal identity check using your passport, IRP card or another accepted ID.
Can someone book an appointment for me?
Not if you're 16 or over. ISD says the appointment must be made by the person registering, and that anyone selling appointments isn't acting for it.
