Privacy policy

In short

  • You don’t need an account, and we don’t use cookies, analytics or advertising trackers.
  • Our tools run in your browser. What you type into them isn’t sent to us or stored on our servers.
  • Our web server keeps short-lived technical logs, like your IP address, to run the site and keep it secure.
  • If you contact us, we use your message only to reply. Write to hello@onpath.ie about any of this.

Who we are

On Path (onpath.ie) is an independent website with guides and tools about living in Ireland. We are responsible for the personal data processed through this website. You can reach us at hello@onpath.ie, or by post at On Path, 26 Upper Pembroke Street, Dublin D02 X361.

What we collect, and why

When you visit the website

Like almost every website, our web server automatically records technical information about each request: your IP address, the date and time, the page you asked for, the address of the page that linked to it, and your browser and device type. We use these logs only to deliver the website, keep it secure, and find and fix problems. Our legal basis is our legitimate interest in running a safe, working website. We keep these logs for a short period and then delete them, unless we need them for longer to investigate a security incident.

When you contact us

If you use our contact form or email us, we receive your email address, your name if you give it, the topic, and whatever you write. The form also sends the page you came from on our site. We use this only to reply and follow up, and keep it only as long as that takes. Our legal basis is our legitimate interest in answering you. Please don’t send us copies of immigration documents or other sensitive details: we can’t advise on individual cases.

Messages from the form are passed by a small Cloudflare service straight to our inbox. It doesn’t keep a copy, and briefly uses your IP address to stop the form being abused.

What we don’t collect

  • We have no accounts, sign-ups or newsletters.
  • We don’t use cookies, analytics, advertising, social media plugins or tracking pixels.
  • We don’t sell or share your data for marketing.

Our tools run on your device

The planners, checkers and calculators in our guides do their work in your browser. The dates, answers and other information you enter are not sent to us and not stored on our servers. If a tool offers a calendar file, it is created on your device.

A few choices are remembered in your browser’s local storage, on your device only, so they’re still there next time:

  • Your cookie choice from the banner or the cookie button (onpath:consent).
  • Day or night mode, if you switch it (onpath:theme).
  • The documents you tick in the checklist in our IRP renewal guide (onpath:irp-checklist).

These never leave your device and aren’t used to track you. You can delete them at any time by clearing this site’s data in your browser settings. The cookie button at the bottom left of every page lets you see and change your choices. Analytics and marketing are switched off unless you allow them, and we don’t use either today.

Who else is involved

  • Hosting. The website runs on servers in the European Union provided by Hetzner Online GmbH, which processes the server logs on our behalf.
  • Cloudflare answers the lookup that turns onpath.ie into our server’s address (your visits then go straight to our server, not through Cloudflare), delivers messages from our contact form, and forwards email sent to hello@onpath.ie to our inbox.
  • Fonts and icons are stored on our own server, so loading a page doesn’t contact Google or any other font service.
  • Links. Our guides link to official websites, like Immigration Service Delivery and Citizens Information. Their own privacy policies apply once you’re there.

Our website and its logs stay in the European Economic Area. Cloudflare is based in the United States, so a message you send through the contact form or by email may be processed there. We rely on the EU–US Data Privacy Framework, under which Cloudflare is certified, and on the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses.

Your rights

Under data protection law, you can ask us for a copy of the personal data we hold about you, and ask us to correct it, delete it, restrict how we use it, or stop using it. Email hello@onpath.ie and we’ll reply within one month. Because we hold so little, there may be nothing we can link to you.

If you’re unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the Data Protection Commission at dataprotection.ie.

Children

Our guides cover children’s immigration and citizenship, but the website is meant for adults. We don’t knowingly collect personal data from children.

Changes to this policy

If we change how we handle data, for example by adding new features, we’ll update this page and the date at the top before the change takes effect.

On Path is an independent, privately run website. We are not part of, or connected to, the Government of Ireland, Immigration Service Delivery, the Department of Justice or any other public body, and we cannot make, influence or speed up any decision on an application. Our guides and tools help you get organised and are for general information only. They are not legal advice, and rules can change, so check the current position with the relevant authority or a qualified adviser before you act. On Path takes no position on immigration policy or politics: we explain how the processes work, for anyone who needs to follow them.

We value your privacy

On Path uses only strictly necessary storage on your device, like remembering this choice and your day or night setting. We don’t run analytics or advertising trackers. You can pre-approve optional categories in case we add them later, or continue with essentials only.

Cookie preferences

Choose which kinds of storage On Path may use. You can change this any time with the cookie button at the bottom left of the page. Read more in our privacy policy.

Strictly necessary

Always active

Needed for the site to work and to remember choices you make: this cookie choice, day or night mode, and the documents you tick in a checklist. They stay on your device and can’t be switched off.

Analytics

Currently unused

Privacy-friendly, anonymous usage counts that would show us which guides help most. On Path runs no analytics today: your choice applies only if we ever add them.

Marketing

Currently unused

Advertising, retargeting or social media pixels. On Path has never used these and has no plans to. The option is here so your preference is on record if that changes.

Under the Irish ePrivacy Regulations (S.I. No. 336 of 2011) and the GDPR, your consent is freely given and you can withdraw it at any time.
