How to get your Employment Detail Summary

For most people working in Ireland, the easiest strong document for each year of residence is one Revenue already has: your Employment Detail Summary. It's a PDF you create in myAccount in a few clicks, and ISD scores it at 100 points. Older years, this year and self-employment each work a little differently.

The short answer

  • What it is: Revenue’s yearly summary of your pay and tax. ISD scores it as a strong document: 100 points.
  • Where: myAccount › PAYE Services › View your Employment Detail Summary (EDS) documents.
  • Which years: each finished year from 2019, available from January after the year ends. Before 2019, use your P60.
  • Self-employed: your Letter of Acknowledgement of Self-Assessment in ROS.
  • Before you create one: check your name and address in myAccount. A past year’s EDS can’t be re-created with new details.

Do you have Revenue myAccount?

    How to get them

From Revenue’s Tax and Duty Manuals and myAccount pages, and ISD’s citizenship guide. Nothing you choose is sent or saved.

Download your EDS, step by step

        1. Sign in to myAccount. No account? See below.
        2. In PAYE Services, select View your Employment Detail Summary (EDS) documents.
        3. Choose the tax year and select Create EDS.
        4. On the “your jobs and pension” page, select Create Document.
        5. Open My Documents and save the PDF.

If your employer corrected the pay figures after you created an EDS, you can create a new one for that year: the latest is the corrected version.

        No myAccount yet?

You can register if you’re a PAYE taxpayer, even a new one. You’ll need:

        • your PPS number and date of birth;
        • a phone number, email and home address.

For instant access, verify your identity with two of: your Irish driving licence number, details from a payslip, or a notice of assessment or acknowledgement of self-assessment. Otherwise Revenue posts your password. If you have a verified MyGovID, sign in with that instead. If you can’t use myAccount at all, Revenue can post you a paper EDS.

        Which document for which year

        Your situation Revenue document Where
Employee or pension, 2019 on Employment Detail Summary myAccount, from January after the year
Employee, 2018 or earlier P60 from your employer Your own records
Any of the last 4 years Statement of Liability, after filing a Form 12 myAccount › Review your tax, usually in 5 working days
This year No EDS yet. Your pay so far is in the Summary of Pay and Tax Details myAccount
Self-employed Letter of Acknowledgement of Self-Assessment, after your Form 11 ROS

Revenue’s myAccount page says EDSs are there for 2020 on, while its manual says 2019. If 2019 is missing, contact Revenue, or use bank statements for that year.

        Using it for citizenship

        • ISD’s residence scoring counts an Employment Detail Summary or Revenue statement as a strong document (100 points). Each year needs 150, so add a bill or another document.
        • Your citizenship years run back from the day you apply, not by calendar year, so a year often spans two EDSs. Use the one that covers most of it, and bank statements if a part is missing.
        • Upload each EDS as its own PDF, named clearly, such as “2024 Employment Detail Summary – Amina Yusuf”.
        • Revenue can’t certify or stamp documents for other purposes. If ISD asks for certified copies, a solicitor, commissioner for oaths, notary public or peace commissioner does that.

        Common mix-ups

        Common questions

What is an Employment Detail Summary?

Revenue's summary of the pay and tax your employers or pension providers reported for a year. Revenue says you can use it as proof of income, and as proof of address for third parties. For citizenship, ISD scores it as a strong document: 100 points.

How do I download my Employment Detail Summary?

Sign in to myAccount, open PAYE Services, select 'View your Employment Detail Summary (EDS) documents', choose the year, then 'Create EDS' and 'Create Document'. The PDF is in My Documents.

When is the EDS for last year available?

In January. You can't get an EDS for the year you're in until it's over.

Is there an EDS for 2018 or earlier?

No. The EDS replaced the P60 when employers stopped having to give one, from 2019. For earlier years, use the P60 your employer gave you, or other strong documents like bank statements. Revenue's pages differ on 2019 itself, so check myAccount.

        I'm self-employed. What's my Revenue document?

Your Letter of Acknowledgement of Self-Assessment, which Revenue produces after you file your Form 11. You'll find it in ROS.

Can Revenue stamp or certify my EDS for ISD?

No. Revenue's manual says its staff can't certify or stamp documents for non-Revenue purposes. Download the PDF yourself.

My EDS shows an old address. Can I fix it?

Not for a year that's already been created, unless your employer later changes the pay details. Update your address in myAccount before you create the next one.
